Golden Ratio Loudspeaker Stands

Regardless of its level of performance, every loudspeaker is potentially limited by the environment in which it is placed. Often the decor of one’s listening space dictates that compromises must be made with regards to speaker placement. While all SP Technology products employing Waveguide Technology reduce these limitations to a great extent, they too will benefit from optimal placement. With that in mind, we have designed our Golden Ratio™ Loudspeaker Stands to help further minimize undesirable room interactions.

The term “Golden Ratio” is based on a mathematical concept of Natural Law that governs our universe. It is the ratio of one side of a pentagon to its diagonal (~.618) and is more commonly referred to as the “Golden Section.” This ratio has been studied since at least the time of the ancient Greek mathematicians and has been found within the morphology of innumerable natural and living systems. Leonardo da Vinci’s famous drawing of the human body inscribed within a circle is one famous example.

It is well known in engineering circles that acoustic spaces having their dimensions based on this ratio produce the most pleasant sound and have the property of minimizing “standing wave” resonance problems. Our Golden Ratio™ Loudspeaker Stands will place your new SP Technology loudspeakers at the optimal vertical position corresponding to the Golden Ratio. The stock version of our stands is based on an eight foot ceiling height. Custom stands are available if your listening space has significantly different ceiling dimensions.
